Dungeon Siege 3 release date announced   Dungeon Siege 3 release date announced

Square Enix has finally announced a release date for upcoming hack-and-slash title Dungeon Siege 3, pegging 27th May for UK and Europe. America, on the other hand, will have to wait an extra few days - Dungeon Siege 3 will hit US shelves on May 31st.  This is for HD home video game consoles PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as on PC Windows-based machines.

A sequel to the successful and pretty Dungeon Siege series, which was regrettably turned into a film by Uwe Boll, Dungeon Siege 3 is the first title in the franchise not to be developed by Gas Powered Games. Instead, Fallout: New Vegas developers Obsidian Entertainment are taking over.

The publisher has changed too, with Square Enix picking the series up off Microsoft. Details of the story and feature set are still sketchy at the moment, but it's confirmed to be set in the same kingdom as the first two games and to feature a multiplayer campaign.

‘Dungeon Siege III’ seamlessly blends intuitive action gameplay, a robust RPG system featuring a large selection of abilities, an extensive multiplayer component and the depth of story Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment are known for creating.

“Dungeon Siege has returned and it’s better than ever. We [Square Enix] have partnered with Obsidian to bring this critically acclaimed classic franchise back in an all new, re-imagined form,” said Ami Blaire, vice president of marketing at Square Enix, Inc. “With its heart-pounding action, epic lore and an endless variety of quests, Dungeon Siege III is a must-have for any video game collection.”

EuroGamer.net reports

"There's more to this game than the mindless slaying of monsters. Dungeon Siege III is a fusion of carnage and story the developer is famous for, and it's also an opportunity for Obsidian to show what it can do when it creates a game with its own engine. Here, in an interview to coincide with the launch of a release date announcement trailer (below), project director Rich Taylor tells Eurogamer how Dungeon Siege III really shouldn't be compared to Diablo III, and tells Fallout fans that, this time, there won't be any crashes."

This new trailer one, below, though still heavy on back-story and concept art does at least proffer a few furtive glimpses of gameplay.
